Selecting Publicity Photos and Graphics

  • Photographs and graphics are important components of news releases and feature stories. They add interest and variety, and they often explain things better than word alone.
  • ” Motion and still images are valuable. Somebody might not read the story, but they’ll recall the images.”- Watlington
  • A well composed photo focusing on the subject and minimizes the background makes a strong, appealing photo.
  • Action is important because it projects movement and idea that something is happening right before the reader’s eyes.
  • Things to remember. Emphasize details, not whole scenes. Try to always frame pictures, ask subjects wearing classes to remove them.
